Celebration of Indian dance in Bahrain

Manama : Keeping Kathak and Kuchipudi in focus, the Indian Embassy in Bahrain is hosting a classical dance performance on Saturday from 6:30 pm at the Bahrain Cultural Hall.

The event, held in association with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is backed by Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities. 

In an attempt to showcase authentic Kathak, a group led by Sanjeev Kumar Agnihotri will present Shiv Vandana, dance on patriotic songs of Kavi Pradeep, Tarana in pure Kathak form, and Holi, a festival of colours in Kathak and folk style.

Sanjeev Kumar Agnihotri is a post-graduate in theatre arts from the Bhartendu Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1996. His experience includes working as a production coordinator in CIET (NCERT), Coordinator/ Production Assistant with National School of Drama, and Technical Director for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Sangeet Naatak Academy. Besides directing and choreographing several plays and dance dramas, he had also acted in several plays and telefilms.

Kuchipudi will be presented by a troupe led by Deepa Shashindran. They will perform an invocatory Slokham on Lord Ganesha, followed by composition “Vandeham”, choreography on Pravesha Daruvu in Ragam Bhairavi, Chandrasekaram in Carnatic music with slokham in Kapi Ragam, Ramayana Sabdam in Ragam Mohanam and a patriotic note by dancing to the iconic verses Vandematharam choreographed in Kuchipudi style.

Deepa Narayanan Shashindran is a fine versatile artiste of the Kuchipudi dance style mastered under guru - the renowned Kuchipudi exponent Manju Barggavee. She has received a lot of accolades for her vivacious dance technique and spellbound performances in India and abroad. She is engaged in conducting inspiring workshops/lecture-demo, curates dance festival Natya Parampara Utsav at Kuchipudi Parampara Foundation, Bangalore, and empanelled with the Ministry of Culture of the Govt. of India for festivals of India abroad, and empanelled member of the International Art Organization SPICMACAY.

A lecture cum demonstration by the exponents of Kathak and Kuchipudi and interaction with the artists was held yesterday at Embassy Complex in Al Seef District.
