Empowering women in engineering sector

Manama : In celebration of Bahrain Women’s Day, the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs organised a panel discussion under the title “Women in Engineering, Achievements and the way forward” yesterday at the Capital Club.

The event organised in cooperation with the World Federation of Bahraini Business Women, Supreme Council for Women and Capital Club aimed to highlight the achievements of women in the field of engineering.

Along with a panel discussion, Bahraini women in the engineering sector were honoured under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King & Supreme Council for Women Chairwoman. 

The Panel discussion which was moderated by Zahraa Taher, Board member of Bahrain International Federation of Business & Professional Women (BPW) along with panellists Mazen Ahmed Al Omran, Managing Director (Mazen Alumran Consulting Engineers) & Chairman of Association of Engineering Offices, Bahrain, Huda Mirza Abbas Alsalman,  Director of Building Maintenance in Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Development, Bahija Mohamed Aldaylami, Advisor at Mainstreaming Women’s Need in Development and Marjan Madara, Researcher, Public Speaker in Knowledge Economy and Innovation.

Alsalman stressed on the importance of holding such seminars to identify the gaps and obstacles that prevent the empowerment of women engineers in Bahrain. She also pointed several important points which may lead to the success of women in the engineering sector and the need of having an open environment. 

She further thanked all the partners especially the Supreme Council for Women for its continuous support in empowering Bahraini women in all the sectors. 

Al Omran told DT News, “It is a pleasure to be a part of an event where we can create a platform to support and empower women in the engineering sector.”

“For every woman today with her mind and abilities, she can work as much as a man can, as 30 per cent constitutes of women engineers in Bahrain. We believe that through initiatives like this we can train young aspiring engineers to become professionals. Further with a lot of questions that were being raised on if women in the Kingdom has what it takes to be an onsite engineer and filling that gender gap in the engineering sector,” she added.
