Serena attends first public event
New York : Serena Williams has made her first public appearance since the birth of her daughter Alexis Olympia in September, at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York City.
Williams, who was honoured as a Glamour Woman of the Year in 2009, presented the Supernova Award to her friend Gigi Hadid. “You are one of the few people on this planet I would leave my baby for—for one night,” Williams joked to the model.
“But for you, it shows how much you mean to me. And I want you to imagine the effect you have on the world.”
Williams is yet to make an announcement regarding her planned comeback in 2018, though her coach Patrick Mouratoglou has said that a return in Australia is the “goal”.
In October, Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley told the media that “Serena will be back” in Melbourne to defend the title she won while pregnant with Alexis Olympia.
