Bahraini boy killed in road accident in Saudi Arabia

ManamaA Bahraini boy was killed and two members of his family were injured in a road accident in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday morning.

Ahmed Al Shabbaq, 14, was on a pilgrimage trip to Karbalaa in Iraq  along with his father and four-year-old brother when the accident happened.

Speaking to DT News yesterday, the boy’s uncle Mohammed Al Shabbaq said that the Bahraini Embassy in Riyadh has been contacted and that the embassy’s officials are following up the case with the Saudi authorities.

“The accident took place at around 7 am on a freeway in Khafji area near the Saudi-Kuwaiti border on Tuesday. The boy’s father who was driving the car lost control of the vehicle and it overturned multiple times. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The deceased was pronounced dead on the spot and his body was moved to Khafji General Hospital. His younger brother sustained minor injuries and was kept under observation at the same hospital, and the father walked out unharmed,” Mohammed Al Shabbaq said.

The grieved uncle confirmed to DT News that “the embassy officials completed all formalities with the authorities there” and that “the body is on its way to Bahrain”.

The deceased hails from Karranah village in the Northern Governorate and would be buried in the village’s graveyard today as informed by the uncle. He is survived by his parents, four brothers and a sister.
