Sweets manufacturing in Bahrain safe: MoH

ManamaTraditional sweets manufacturing is safe and is done in accordance with high hygienic standards, Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed yesterday.

The ministry’s confirmation followed the circulation of footage claimed to have filmed in a local “halwa” factory in Bahrain.

The video showed workers cooking and packing the sweets in plastic containers that were melting because of high temperature.

Along the video, a question was raised, criticising the role of health authorities in monitoring such facilities and ensuring their compliance with international health standards.

In its response to the video, the ministry issued a statement clarifying that the footage wasn’t filmed in Bahrain.

The statement read, “The video of traditional sweets manufacturing that has recently spread in social media is not in Bahrain.”

The ministry confirmed, “Once the video was detected, the officials of the Public and International Relations Directorate in the ministry raised the matter to the Food Monitoring Department. Investigations clarified that the factory isn’t in Bahrain as confirmed by the Factories and Central Markets Unit in the department.”

The ministry called upon the public to be alert to such news that directly affects the human health and are circulated online, commenting that the spread of similar rumours may create public irritation. It advised citizens and residents to seek news from reliable sources only.

According to regional reports, the video was filmed in Oman and the authorities there have taken action against the violating factory.
