Parliament panels elected in Bahrain

ManamaBahraini lawmakers yesterday elected the chairpersons and members of the parliamentary committees for the recently launched fourth and final session of the ongoing four-year legislative term.

Supervised by the council’s Speaker Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mulla, the MPs elected the members of the council’s five permanent committees, which are the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee, Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee, Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, Public Utilities and Environment Committee and the Services Committee.

As reported yesterday, few changes were made to the form of the panels and only one committee got a new chairman.

Elections results

The election process was made after the parliament’s regular weekly meeting which was concluded at the House of Representatives in Gudaibiya yesterday.

MP Abdulla bin Huwail was elected as the chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee for the fourth consecutive year. Khalifa Al Ghanim was chosen by the majority of committee members to be the Deputy Chairman of the panel. MPs Jamal Bu Hassan, Mohammed Al Jowder, Theyab Al-Nuaimi, Abdulrahman Bumjaid and Nabil Al Balushi are members of the panel.

The Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee will be chaired by MP Majid Al Majid, replacing the previous head Mohammed Milad. Anas Buhindi was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the committee. The panel consisted of MPs Mohammed Milad, Isa Turki, Fatima Al Asfoor, Khalid Al Shaer, Ali Al Ateesh and Mohammed Al Maarifi as members.

Regarding the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, majority of members re-elected Abdulrahman Buali as the head of the committee for the third year this term, while the second post in the panel went to Jalal Kadhim. Committee members included MPs Mohammed Al Ahmed, Ahmed Qarata, Adel Hameed, Ali Bufarsen, Dr. Majeed Al Asfoor and Mohammed Al Emadi.

MP Abbas Al Madhi was also re-elected as the chairman of Services Committee for the fourth time in the past four years, with Osama Al Khaja as the Deputy Chairperson. Members included MPs Roua Al Hayki, Dr. Jameela Al Sammak, Ali Al Muqla, Jamal Dawood and Isa Al Kooheji.

The Public Utilities and Environment Committee will be chaired in the next period by MP Adel Al Assoomy and will have Mohsen Al Bakri as Deputy Chairman. 

The members of the committee include Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Hamad Al Dossary, Abdulhameed Al Najjar, Ghazi Al Rahma and Nasser Al Qasseer.
