Cabinet nod for 100mw solar power plant

ManamaThe weekly Cabinet meeting held yesterday gave the green signal to set up  a solar power plant in the Kingdom to generate 100 megawatts of electricity. 

The decision is in line with  the government’s keenness to tap renewable energy as per the National Renewable Energy Plan and National Energy Efficiency Plan which aim to provide 5 per cent of the country’s electricity consumption using renewable energy and resources.

The project proposed to come up in collaboration with the private sector will put out tender in February 2018, and is expected to be completed in 2019, the memorandum submitted by the Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs said.

The Cabinet meeting was chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa at the Gudaibiya Palace yesterday.

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, attended the weekly Cabinet session.

Reviewing the needs of the citizens across the Kingdom’s towns and villages, HRH  Prime Minister gave directives to meet the needs of Jid Hafs by providing facilities to meet the aspirations of the residents. HRH Premier requested ministers to follow up on the needs of the village in housing, health, education and other services.

HRH Premier also requested the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister, to visit the Nuwaidrat Market, and identify the needs of vendors and customers and provide everything required by the market so that it continue serve the Nuwaidrat residents. The ministry has been tasked with providing all services and ensuring cleanliness of streets and public areas, especially those hosting the Ashoora commemoration rituals.
