British School of Bahrain reopens doors to students

ManamaThe British School of Bahrain (BSB) has reopened its doors to students aged 3 to 18 years after the long summer holiday for the start of the New Year.

There is a change in leadership in the Junior section of the school, as Robert Howe, after several years of sterling services to the school as assistant head, has been promoted to Juniors head teacher.

Rob has a wealth of experience in the UK, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. His first project is to ensure all assessment and reporting is transparent, with a parent and child friendly learning focus.

Howe is supported in his leadership of the Juniors by Mark Jones and Marie Halpin who has joined the school fresh from a primary head teacher position in the UK.

Head of school, Julie Anne Gilbert said, “It has been a very smooth start to the year”.

The school has enhanced its facilities considerably over the summer with the development of an additional sixth form centre, extra science laboratories and a number of new classrooms.

Head of Seniors, Khalil Ahmed said, “We have been very fortunate to recruit some excellent new members of the teaching faculty, bringing with them a wealth of experience and exciting new ideas.”

Gilbert added that one of her main messages to students this year was to encourage them to nurture the mother tongue, whether it is Arabic or another language, as much as possible.

“The global leader of the future are unlikely to speak only one language”, she commented.
