Shaikh Hamad Road residents find relief from sewage overflow

ManamaResidents at Shaikh Hamad Road in the Capital can finally heave a sigh of relief from the stint caused by the overflowing sewage water in front of their houses.

After DT News reported the issue, officials took note of the situation and stopped the overflow by cleaning the drainage system.

The accumulated water had become an issue of a constant nuisance to the residents there and consequently a health hazard.

The Capital Municipal Council along with the help of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning cleaned the drainage system and is now doing that on a regular basis.

Vice President of Capital Municipal Council Mazen Ahmad Al-Omran also assured DT News that the Council would take all necessary steps to make living easier for residents in the Capital.

“We received a lot of complaints as well as letters addressing the council on this issue,” he said adding: “The matter was taken into consideration immediately.”

According to Al-Omran, restaurants in the area discharging oil and food fat into the system were the primary reason of the blockage in the drain.

Meanwhile, one of the residents told us, “We really appreciate the efforts of the DT News in bringing the issue to public notice and the authorities for making the area suitable for living again.”
