Bahrain Cabinet backs Quartet

ManamaThe Cabinet meeting held yesterday approved the tough stance adopted by Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt on Qatar crisis, rejecting all preconditions for a dialogue on the implementation of the 13 demands put forward by the Quartet. 

The meeting, chaired by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, was attended by Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. 

The Cabinet session also expressed the Kingdom’s empathy with United States  in the aftermath of the devastating Hurricanes Harvey and IRMA which wrecked havoc in the friendly nation.

Housing, infra projects

Considering the needs of towns and villages, HRH the Premier issued directives to expedite the implementation of the East Sitra Housing Project, and to finalise its technical and administrative procedures.

The authorities have also been instructed to meet the needs of the Galali village regarding educational and service facilities.

The Prime Minister has directed to implement infrastructure projects that are directly related to the citizens’ life based on a report submitted by the Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister on 2017 projects. The report revealed that a total of 69 projects, costing approximately BD127 million, are being implemented this year.

Forty-five tenders worth BD40 million were awarded by the Works Ministry during the second quarter of 2017, the report said.

The Premier has given directives to set up electricity generation projects to cope up with the growing energy needs of the Kingdom as a result of the urban and economic boom the country is witnessing.

Human rights

The Cabinet reviewed a memorandum presented by the Foreign Affairs Minister on the opinion of the High Coordinating Committee for Human Rights regarding the recommendations issued by the Universal Periodic Review during the Kingdom’s presentation of its third national report. The report was widely lauded by the participating countries.
