New school at Sanabis: PM’s directive ignored

ManamaAnother school year begins today, but residents of Sanabis are still waiting for a new school to come up in their town to accommodate the increasing number of students at Sanabis Primary Girls’ School.

One year after the Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa visited the school and ordered to construct a new school for the students of Sanabis, there were no signs of any serious steps taken by the concerned authorities to implement the Premier’s directives, says the area’s representative MP Adel Hameed.

Hameed confirmed to DT News yesterday that the situation remains and that there has been no initiatives taken yet to build a new school.

“The decision of constructing the new school should be taken by the Education Ministry. The financing of the project will be the task of Finance Ministry, which should finalise the budget of the project, and the construction works will be initiated by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry. The first step was not taken yet by Education Ministry,” he explained.

The MP said that the residents of the village are hoping that HRH Prime Minister’s instructions would be implemented by the concerned ministries at the earliest. The school, which was established in 1968 and is one of the oldest in the Kingdom, accommodates around 500 students of the village’s girls now, according to Hameed.Education Ministry ordered to shut it down last year considering the safety of students and the teachers, as the numerous complaints were received regarding the dilapidated buildings of the school and poor  hygienic conditions. The school was soon reopened and welcomed students after Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry conducted urgent maintenance works at the school as directed by the Prime Minister.

“I will discuss the matter once again with the Premier, as no serious commitment was shown from Education Ministry’s side and the other ministries. I hope that this will be finalised soon to serve the students of the village and the neighbouring areas,” the MP added.
