Bahrain MP says Quran reciting should be on the curriculum
Manama : A Parliamentarian yesterday proposed making Quran reciting compulsory in the school curriculum, saying “the wrong recitation of the Holy Book has become one of the negative phenomena prevalent in our society”.
“The current teaching of the Quran does not fulfil the purpose and does not reflect the absolute status of the Holy Quran in our lives,” said MP Jamal Dawood.
His proposal requires teaching the subject to all Muslim students as part of the curriculum followed by the public schools in Bahrain.
The proposal also requires that Muslim students should not be allowed to take part in any other religious classes other than Islamic and in non-Islamic activities such as “preaching, guidance and prayer at all levels of education”.
“Private educational institution shall abide by the curricula, books and study hours approved by Education Ministry,” Dawood said.
