Minister opens 220kv airport facility

Manama : Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza yesterday inaugurated the 220kV airport terminal in the presence of Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) Chief Executive Sheikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa and officials. 

The project is to take care of the expansion of the Bahrain International Airport and commercial and development projects in Muharraq Governorate. The total cost of this plant was BD17,243,349 million. 

The new terminal will feed the new airport terminal building and will be one of 15 such facilities along with 48 66 kV sub-stations.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the inauguration of this project comes within the strategic plan to provide power required for the expansion of Bahrain International Airport and expanding the electricity transmission networks in Bahrain.

He also applauded the follow-up by the ministerial committee for reconstruction and infrastructure, chaired by Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Deputy Prime Minister, that is looking after electricity and water services to satisfy growing needs for development and urban expansion.

Shaikh Nawaf, in his comments, praised the efforts of the employees of the authority to complete the plant in a record time of 12 months. He also thanked project consultants and contractors for their dedication in following up and completing the station in time.
