Independence day celebrated with great fervour in Bahrain

Manama : India’s 71st Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and gaiety all across the Kingdom with hundreds of Indian community members gathering at the Indian mission to participate in the national event. 

Celebrations began with the unfurling of the Tricolour by Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha and reading the address of President Ram Nath Kovid at the Indian Embassy complex in Seef.  

As the tricolour fluttered high at the Indian mission, the Ambassador, in his speech addressing the public, highlighted the achievements of India in various fields in the past 70 years. Indian Embassy First Secretary Meera Sisodia, Second Secretary, Anand Prakash, prominent Indian community leaders, families and well-wishers were present on the occasion.

The Indian School Bahrain (ISB), Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), Kerala Catholic Association (KCA) and several other Indian community organisations in the Kingdom also celebrated the day with the hoisting of the national flag, singing patriotic songs and holding special events to acknowledge the occasion. 

ISB’s celebrations at its Isa Town campus in the Kingdom began with hoisting of the tricolour flag by ISB Vice Chairman Muhammed Iqbal. 

ISB Assistant General Secretary Dr C G Manoj Kumar, EC Member Finance S.K Ramachandran, EC Member Academics Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Isa Town Campus Principal-In-Charge Trevise Michel, ISB  Riffa Campus Principal Sudhir  Krishnan, Vice Principal Pamela Xavier and the staff from both campuses were present. ISB Physical Education HoD Saikat Sarkar welcomed the gathering. Sweets were distributed on the occasion.

Celebrations by BKS were held at its premises in Segaya. BKS President P.V Radhakrishna Pillai hoisted the national flag in the presence of BKS members.

At its premises in Segaya, KCA President K P Jose and Acting General Secretary Varughese Scaria jointly hoisted the flag in front of KCA members kick starting their celebrations.

Around GCC

Expatriate communities, all over the Gulf, held similar celebrations with gatherings in all major cities.  

In Egypt, India’s Ambassador to Egypt Sanjay Bhattacharyya hoisted the country’s flag to mark the day at the India House in Zamalek.

The celebration was attended by members of the Indian community in Egypt as well some Egyptian friends of India and students of language The Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC).

After hoisting the flag, and the attendees sang the national anthem, Bhattacharyya also read out the message of Kovind.

In the UAE, hundreds of Indian expats gathered at their country’s missions to celebrate, Gulf News reported.

Patriotic Indians chanted slogans praising their motherland before the Indian flag was hoisted at the premises of the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai.

Indians in countries like China, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Egypt, Israel and South Africa celebrated the day with the hoisting of the national flag and singing of patriotic songs.
