Bahrain defeated by Sweden

ManamaBahrain under coach Ebrahim Ali lost its fifth and final Group A match yesterday against Sweden by 28-20 in the 2017 Men’s Youth World Handball Championships at the Tbilisi Sports Palace in the capital of Georgia.

At the half-time break the Swedish team held a 13-7 lead which helped them to fourth place in the group and qualified for the Round of 16 knockout phase, while Bahrain finished bottom of the group and now take part in the President’s Cup placement competition.

Top scoring for Sweden were, Carl Mollerstrom, Markus Thorbjorn, Anton Persson and Oskar Sunnefeldt with four goals apiece, while Axrl Morand also scored three.

For Bahrain, Abdulla Zaimoor (5) was the top scorer, the other goals were scored by Ahmed Ali and Ahmed Al Ghazal (3 each), Abdulla Ali, Mohammed Mohammed and Mohammed Hussain (2 each) and one for Nasser Naser, Yusuf Al Qasmi and Ahmed Fadhul.

In the other Group a matches, France beat Denmark 35-26 after leading 19-15 at the break to top the group and Egypt finished second after a 30-22 win over Norway after leading 14-12 at the break.

All the teams take a rest break today with the placement and knockout matches getting underway tomorrow. Bahrain are set to play Algeria tomorrow morning, along with Argentina and Mexico in the semi-finals to decide 21st to 24th places classification.
