‘Global Village’ proposed to revive tourism sector
Manama : An MP yesterday called for replicating Dubai’s ‘Global Village’ model in Bahrain to revive tourism in the Kingdom.
House of Representatives Member Osama Al Khaja called upon Bahrain Exhibitions and Tourism Authority of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry to benefit from the emirati experiment and attract more tourists by establishing such a global and cultural projects.
Al Khaja said in a statement issued here yesterday that “the UAE has benefited from the establishment of this project on an annual basis, as the Global Village provides a platform for young entrepreneurs to launch their projects and provide the opportunity to transform their ideas into reality, in cooperation with the relevant government and private institutions”. The MP recalled the Bahrain Food Festival, stressing that similar events should be organised in the Kingdom to allow the Bahraini youth and entrepreneurs to demonstrate their talents.
He also pointed to the economic sides of establishing such projects in Bahrain saying, “ Dubai’s experience in establishing the Global Village has provided the right environment for the development of business communities and the encouragement of small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, providing the necessary facilities from rent and logistics reductions. It encouraged a large group of Emirati youth to implement their projects and to promote a culture of self-employment with fruitful projects, while providing a source of income for Emirati families and thus providing employment opportunities, especially for Emirati youth and productive families. It’s a good opportunity to enhance their entrepreneurial spirit. This reflects positively on social and psychological of citizens.”
“This type of activities facilitate dealing with tourism elements, developing them and marketing them as a global industry. The organised companies have benefited from the investments that come to them, especially with the growing number of their employees, to become an important economic source that contributes significantly to the national economies and is witnessing remarkable growth in the region. This is due to the current regional economic boom, with the availability of facilities and services, and the appropriate infrastructure,” Al Khaja said in his statement.
He also underlined that “the Bahraini government’s work programme includes a strategy aimed at developing the tourism, culture and exhibitions sectors”.
“This role contributes to the support of revenues and diversifies the tourism fields, including the creation and development of vital and modern projects that attract tourists and enhance Bahrain’s position on the world tourism and cultural map,” Al Khaja added.
