Sewage spill continues on Shaikh Hamad Road

ManamaResidents on Shaikh Hamad Road in the capital are an unhappy lot as sewage spill continues unabated in the area even after registering complaints to the officials.

The drainage system in front of their houses is still overflowing, with the stench getting unbearable day-by-day, residents said.

“Even after filing complaints and taking the matter to the press there seems to be no action from the authorities. It has been a month now and the drainage system is still overflowing in front of our houses,” said a resident.

“The entire stretch of the road is continuing to smell due to the accumulated waste and waste water from the drainage,” he said.

“We know why it is happening and who are the main culprits behind it, but there has to be something done urgently for the residents by the authorities,” said another resident.

“There are days when the entire road stretch is clogged with drainage water, making it very hard for us to even walk on the road with our kids,” he said.

“It has been exactly a month and there still seems to be no action taken even after raising the issue in the press. The officials seem to just ignore the problems that take place at the heart of the city,” said an office-goer in the vicinity.

“The area already has a lot of problems with mostly expat labours overcrowding the streets unnecessarily and illegal vegetable hawkers throwing the food waste on the streets. We sincerely urge the officials to take immediate action, so that at least it becomes bearable for us to move around the area with our kids,” added the office-goer.
