54 domestic violence cases reported so far

Manama : At least 54 cases of domestic violence have been reported this year so far, a recent official report unveiled.

Labour and Social Development Ministry latest data showed that 67 cases were received by Dar Al Aman Home, a shelter for abused women and children that operates under the ministry’s Social Welfare Department.

The ministry explained that 35 of the cases were of Bahraini women, 8 Arab nationals and 24 foreigners.

“54 of the cases were classified as domestic violence. 19 of them were physiological violence, 11 physical and three were sexual abuse cases. 16 cases were classified as physiological and physical violence, while two cases were physiological, physical and sexual abuse,” the report said.

The emergency shelter received 19 cases of Bahraini women and three cases of human trafficking,” the report said.

The data also revealed that 38 of the cases were of married women, who had 33 children with them.

“Dar Al Aman Home monitors the cases that are reunited with their families to ensure that they are not subjected to domestic violence again and to ensure that they are adapted to their family and social environment, as well as rehabilitating families whose women and children are subjected to various forms of victimisation and to raise awareness on this issue, in order to provide the necessary protection,” the report said.

“The home is also coordinating with various official and private bodies concerned to solve the problems of this category and facilitate the procedures of accommodation and facilitate access to assistance and enable them to improve the situation in general,” the report read.
