Merida’s Arashiro best on stage

Manama : Bahrain’s Merida Pro Cycling team rider, Japan’s Yukiya Arashiro (three hours 39 minutes 48 seconds) raced well yesterday to finish 45th overall on the 16th stage of the 104th Tour de France from Le Puy-En-Velay to Romans-Sur-Isere over 165km.

Arashiro was one minute 33 seconds behind stage winner, Australian Michael Matthews (3:38:15) of Team Sunweb.

Bahrain’s other seven riders classified were - Sonny Calbrelli (73rd, Italy, +2:32), Janez Brajkovic (81st, Slovenia, +2:51), T Grmay, (Ethiopia (87th, +2:51), Javier Moreno, 118th, Spain, +9:09), Borut Bozic (141st, Slovenia, + 16:19), Grega Bole (158th, Slovenia, +16:19) and Ondrej Cink (161st, Czech Republic, +16:19).

Bahrain’s ninth team member Spaniard Ion Izaguirre withdrew from the opening stage in Dusseldorf, Germany after suffering a lumbar fracture of the lower spine.

The tour resumes today with the 17th stage taking the remaining (173) riders further into the Alps mountain range from La Mure to Serre Chevalier over 183km.
