IS operatives hold classes for kids

ManamaOne of the Islamic State (IS) operatives from India who was killed while fighting in Syria had organised classes for children in Bahrain, it has emerged.

“They organised classes in Bahrain and one of them even conducted classes for young children,” a source confirmed to DT News adding: “He kept his extremist ideologies a secret.”

The source further confirmed that the person was trusted with selecting top students for the Quran memorisation classes.

“He would interview students and give them orientation. However, he did not propagate any extremist ideologies then,” the source added.

“It was not something that they always preached. Many people were shocked in finding out that they joined IS,” a resident told DT News.

“They would regularly visit a Manama-based Islamic centre and were well known, but were expelled from the centre after the management found out about their ideologies,” the resident
said.

“They did not preach by taking classes but they would try to debate their extremist ideologies with others during conversations,” the source added.

News of the duo’s association with Bahrain groups was first published in The Times of India (ToI). According to the ToI report, preachers in Kerala were responsible for radicalising the duo.

“Sources told ToI that the two Salafi preachers from Kerala - one from Mankada in Malappuram and the other from Perumbavoor in Ernakulam - were instrumental in radicalising the youth. Four members of the group, including Muhadis from Vandoor, were killed in military operations within a span four months in Syria,” the report stated.
