Strikers win Awali trophy

Manama : Strikers CC defeated Awali Mix by three wickets yesterday in the final of the Awali Champions Trophy Cricket Tournament sponsored by Bahrain Financing Company and Jeff Auto Services WLL and played at the Awali Oval. 

Batting first, Awali Mix notched up an impressive 267 all out in 43 of the 50 overs per side scheduled.

Openers Vishal (33 off 24 deliveries, 5x4, 1x6) and Ahmed (55 off 59, 9x4) got Awali off to a good start with 48 runs on the board before the former was dismissed in the seventh over.

Ravi (1) was next in and went cheaply, but Sanjay (44 off 46, 7x4) and Ishti (58 off 63, 6x4) boosted the total with Lloyd (18 off 21, 2x4) and batting at number nine added valuable runs late on.

Sabya (three for 28) in six overs and Prince (two for 35) in seven overs were the best of the bowlers with Sundar and Joby also picking up a wicket each.

Strikers in reply, reached the target scoring 269 for seven in 31 overs.

Opener Deepak Nair (67 off 41, 13x4, 1x6) and Shyju Nair (15 0ff 14, 2x4, 1x6) put on 48 for the first wicket with the latter dismissed in the fifth over.

Shukoor (19 off 24, 3x4) and D Nair added 50 for the second wicket before the latter lost his wicket in the 12th over.

Mitya (15 off 10, 1x4, 1x6) and Prinson (21 off 21, 3x4) added further valuable runs.

With the dismissal of Uday (9 off 18, 1x4), Strikers were 193 for seven in the 28th over, but Satya (58 not out off 33, 6x4, 2x6) and Sameer (45 not out off 14, 6x4, 2x6) produced an amazing unbeaten 76 run eighth wicket partnership to secure victory.

Sanjay (four for 75) in nine overs was the pick of the Awali bowlers, while Sukesh, Sabeer and Ishtiaq all claimed a wicket each.

After the match was completed, the winners and runners-up received trophies and cash prizes.

Best batsman of the tournament was Deepak Nair (166 runs, Strikers CC), Best bowler was Sanjay Rathod (8 wickets, Awali Mix) and Man of the Series was Ishtiaq (90 runs and 5 wickets).

Semi-final scores: Awali Mix 155/4 (Gautham 42), Ahmed 32) bt Lankan Warriors 154 (Sukesh 3 wickets) by six wickets. Strikers CC 87/1 (Deepak Nair 46, Shakur 41) bt Ahmed Zayani CC 84 all out by nine wickets.
