11 plaints lodged against kindergartens last year

Manama : At least eleven complaints were lodged against kindergartens in the Kingdom in 2016, according to latest official data  released by Labour and Social Development Ministry, which supervises the work of nurseries and kindergartens.

According to a document recently issued by the ministry posted on its website, there are 57 licensed kindergartens operating in Bahrain. The majority of the institutions are located in the Northern Governorate, which has 23 nurseries. The Capital Governorate consists of 19 kindergartens, while 10 are located in the Southern Governorate and five in Muharraq Governorate.

The figures showed that specialised teams of the ministry paid 75 visits last year to nurseries across Bahrain, on order to ensure that the norms and regulations are applied. “The female specialists of the concerned section shall make periodical visits to inspect the premises of the nursery homes and house to ascertain their compliance with the regulations of nurseries registration and the extent of conformity with the conditions of establishment,” it was mentioned on the ministry’s website.

The ministry regularly announces disciplinary steps against violating nurseries and kindergartens. The procedures include temporary shutdown of the institution or revoking their permits. The violations usually include breach of safety and security standards, or curricula and academic related violations.
