‘Bahrainis using yoga as a cure’

Manama : Bahrainis are increasingly turning to yoga as an alternate form of treatment, according to a leading Bahraini Yoga expert, Fatima Al Mansoori.

Al Mansoori, a certified yoga therapist, noted that Bahrainis are increasingly attracted to Yoga after finding its effectiveness in treating conditions that even befuddles modern science.

“I started this practice in 2011 and since then I can see an increase in awareness among Bahrainis about yoga,” she pointed out.

“They have recognised yoga as an effective form of treatment to various medical conditions including for those conditions modern science fails to treat,” confirms Al Mansoori.

Al Mansoori began using yoga as a treatment for curing her condition called Fibromyalgia. Doctors told her that the disease is incurable. However, after 8 months of yoga practice, she says she is “completely cured”.

“It was very difficult to diagnose my condition and every doctor I met told me that I had nothing wrong medically.

“I even went to a psychiatric hospital believing that I was suffering from a psychological disorder,” she said.

The symptoms, according to her, were widespread pain and fatigue. She, however, said that being a highly active individual she was always “numb to the pain”.

“But it was extremely difficult for me to wake up,” Al Mansoori said adding that some tests found that she was not having deep sleep.

“Because of this, I was referred to a specialist and was finally diagnosed.”

“But it didn’t end there, as I was told from there that I could not be cured,” she said.

Al Mansoori then decided to accept it and be at peace with it, but tried many things like meditation, eating healthy and exercising, not to cure the condition but to feel peaceful. “Soon, I tried doing yoga and loved it.”

Al Mansoori travelled to India to continue learning yoga. “It was a great experience, but I never expected that I can be cured this way. I started making progress and in eight months I was completely cured,” she added.

Al Mansoori believes that her story has contributed in  Yoga gaining more mileage in Bahrain. “After coming back, I was planning to continue my career as a graphic designer. However, people were inspired by my story and wanted me to help. So I got myself the qualifications necessary to become a yoga therapist and started my own clinic.”

Al Mansoori is sure “Bahrainis are loving yoga right now.”

“Every single patient I treated had a positive experience,” she said stressing: “I have many success stories to tell, as my patients are diverse.”

Al Mansoori said she even had doctors who sought yoga as a treatment for their condition.
