Several arrested in Diraz released

ManamaMore than 40 people who were arrested in Diraz on Tuesday were released by the police on Thursday.

This was confirmed by the area’s parliamentary representative MP Jalal Kadhim, following his meeting with several MPs with Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.

Kadhim stated on his official Twitter page that the police directorate has communicated with the families of 45 people arrested from Diraz.

“They were all released today in the presence of the area’s representative and the governor. Following up on the matter is continued,” Kadhim tweeted on Thursday.

The MP confirmed that the move follows the directives of the minister to release the individuals arrested in Diraz events on Tuesday.

DT News reported on Wednesday that more than 280 people who participated in an illegal gathering in Diraz were arrested. Among the arrested were convicts and fugitives wanted in terror crimes. Five people were killed and more than 30 policemen were injured in armed clashes that occurred while security forces dispersed the crowd.

 “We urge all for self-control and not to follow suspicious statements. We request religious clerics and eminent persons of the area to embrace the youth and preserve civil peace.”
