More than 280 fugitives arrested in Diraz

Manama : More than 280 individuals wanted in terror related cases were arrested during a security operation conducted in Diraz village in the Northern Governorate yesterday.

This was confirmed by Interior Ministry, which issued a statement clarifying that the operation resulted in the arrest of 286 wanted and dangerous individuals who’re convicted in terror cases”.

The ministry announced that a large number of the fugitives were hiding in the residence of Isa Qassim in the same area.

DT News reported earlier that Qassim got his Bahraini citizenship revoked last June for harming national security and funding and supporting radical groups.

He received on Sunday a sentence of suspended one-year jail term and to pay BD100, 000 for illegal fundraising and money laundering charges.

“During the implementation of the security operation, security forces were attacked by terrorists, who used grenades, iron rods, axes and knives,” the ministry’s statement mentioned, adding that the operation came to remove illegal road blocks, reopen roads and restore public and civil security in the village.

The ministry has called upon citizens and residents to abide by the instructions and guidelines that are aimed at their safety and security. 

Parents should ensure the safety of their children and immediately inform the security authorities of any information they may have regarding the existence of weapons or dangerous substances that can be used in terrorist acts, the ministry said.

 In the context of maintaining and protecting public and civil security, any illegal gatherings or seditious messages will be addressed in accordance with legal controls and regulations, the ministry added in its statement.
