Fishermen detained in Iran await penalties to be paid

Manama : Twenty-five fishermen detained in Kish Island in Iran are keenly awaiting their sponsors to pay the penalties after an Iranian court issued a release order. 

The sponsors of the fishermen, details of boats and penalty amounts are:  Mohammad Hasan, boat number BH 5553 (Haral Askar), BD800 (4 fishermen); Muhammad Ali Easa, boat number 10749, BD 2500 (5 fishermen); Mohd Ali Abdulla, boat number 9265, BD 800(4 fishermen); Mohd Ibrahim Saleh, boat numbers 9910 and 8235, BD1200 (6 fishermen); and BD1200 (6 fishermen). 

“I have been constantly in touch with the sponsors and the fishermen. As per my knowledge, the sponsors are paying the penalty fee one by one. The fishermen are still detained at the Kish Island harbour and are kept at their boats. I have informed the Indian embassies in Iran and Bahrain and requested to make efforts for their early release,” International fishermen Development Trust (INFIDET) founder president Justin Antony told DT News.

“I would thank the Indian embassy officials to Iran for their constant effort and timely supply  of medicines, money for food and mobile re-charge to the fishermen,” he added.

DT News had reported the plight of 25 the Indian fishermen detained in Kish Island after they were arrested by Iranian authorities. The fishermen sailed from Bahrain in five boats. The first four boats sailed on March 8 was detained on March 12 and the fifth boat on March 23.
