New BD4.7 million girls school

ManamaThe Works Ministry has handed over the newly constructed, BD4.7 million, multistorey girls school building in Busaiteen to the Ministry of Education, the Works Ministry said in a statement. 

The project implemented as part of the Gulf Development Programme comprises 30 classrooms capable of accommodating 1000 students in three storeys. 

The school has an area of 14791m2, with an actual construction area of 14290m2, said Works Affairs Undersecretary of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning  Ahmed Al Khayyat in a press statement. 

Multi-purpose labs

Facilities include: multi-purpose laboratories for science, computer, home sciences, and physics, in addition to a cafeteria, a library, offices for the teaching and administrative faculty, sports hall, other service facilities such as toilets and store rooms. 

The school also houses a multipurpose hall, a guard room, electricity sub-station, 50 parking spaces, parking spaces for buses as well as an air-conditioned waiting area for students.

According to Al Khayyat, the ministry has taken into consideration sustainability, green building and energy saving measures such as thermal insulation for roofs and walls, double-glazing windows to reduce noise, sensor taps in bathrooms, energy saving lighting systems, acoustically insulated vinyl flooring, and paints with low volatile and anti-carbon organic compounds for internal and external walls. 

“A comfortable and healthy internal environment has been provided, with nonslip vinyl flooring in all rooms, corridors and stairways,” Al Khayyat said. 

‘Special‘ care 

The design also takes into account the requirements of students and staff with special needs and pregnant women. 

Facilities created include: a special parking lot close to the main school entrance, slopes on all entrances, in addition to providing four elevators close to all entrances and toilets with a size that accommodates the needs of special students.
