SCW, Legislative Authority hold meeting

Manama : The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and the Legislative Authority held a meeting yesterday to highlight the significance of cooperation between both the bodies.

The meeting held at the Gulf Convention Centre in Gulf Hotel was attended by SCW Undersecretary Dr. Hala Al Ansari, House of Representatives First Deputy Speaker Ali Al Aradi, Shura Council First Deputy Speaker Jamal Fakhro and a number of MPs, Shura Council members and SCW officials.

The meeting discussed the main issues faced by Bahraini women and the necessary legislations to empower them.

During the meeting, Dr. Al Ansari stressed on the important role of the Legislative Authority in implementing the national strategy for the advancement of Bahraini women by highlighting several legislations related to women empowerment and enhancing Bahraini women’s livelihoods that are studied and discussed by the House of Representatives and Shura Council.

She also pointed out some of the legislative gaps that harms women’s interests, stressing on the need to rectify them by the two chambers of the Legislative
Authority.

Ali Al Aradi reaffirmed the importance the council gives to issues related to women empowerment and called for more coordination in the upcoming phase to tackle these matters, while Jamal Fakhro underlined the achievements of the Kingdom in the field of women empowerment and the necessity to preserve these gains.
