LMRA action against agency for human trafficking attempt

Manama : The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has taken a series of measures against an employment agency after it committed offenses classified as suspicious human trafficking.

LMRA said that immediate measures, including suspending the license of the concerned employment agency were taken as soon as it received information, that the agency published a promotional advertisement entitled “Win a Domestic Worker”.

Ausamah Al Absi, LMRA CEO, and Head of the National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, has directed the departments concerned to summon the owner of the respective employment agency, investigate the suspicion of trafficking and take legal and administrative action.

Al Absi said that respect for the rights and equality of individuals is an integral part of the community and culture in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is based on the equality of all human beings regardless of distinctions.

Al Absi further assured that the regulatory authority will not hesitate to take necessary measures against any suspicion of human trafficking, stressing that these legal measures aim to protect the rights of all workers, especially the household, and reflect the Kingdom’s international obligations to protect human rights.
