Tighten safety measures at industrial areas: MP
Manama : Following the increasing fire incidents in industrial areas lately, a parliamentarian yesterday called for enhancing supervision on safety procedures at factories and industrial warehouses.
MP Dr. Majeed Al Asfoor, who represents Sitra and the surrounding areas, demanded the Government to tighten its supervision on safety and security measures followed at industrial establishments in the country.
His statements came after flames engulfed an industrial warehouse in Sitra and lasted more than half a day before it was extinguished and controlled by Civil Defence firemen on Sunday.
“Fire incidents at industrial establishments, especially those located in Sitra Industrial Area, should be probed and curbed by the concerned authorities. The residents of Sitra are irked by the smell and fumes emitting from the factories and are bearing risks when fire accidents occur at them,” the MP said.
Noting the environmental and health effects of the factories on Sitra residents, Dr. Majeed Al Asfoor called up on the authorities to closely monitor the industries in the area and ensure that safety measures are followed, especially in fire accidents.
It is noteworthy to recall that a big part of Sitra was covered by a thick black smoke cloud on Sunday, following the fire that occurred at an industrial warehouse in the nearby industrial area.
