Stand united to fight terror: Shaikh Rashid

ManamaBahrain has called upon Arab countries to stand united in combating the never-ending terror threats sponsored by Iran.

“We have foiled many terror plots that were planned and backed by terrorists in Iran and Iraq. The Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has asserted its dedication to confront terrorism,” said Interior Minister Lieutenant General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa  at the 34th Arab Interior Ministers Council meeting at Carthage Presidential Palace in Tunisia yesterday.

“Regional and Arab support to fight terrorism through legal means is vital to dry up the financial sources of terrorists,” the minister emphasised.

“This session is taking place after the Arab Summit that was held in Jordan last week and is aimed at mustering Arab solidarity on important issues in the Arab world, especially Arab security that is an essential matter to Arab leaders,” Lt. Col. Shaikh Rashid said, addressing the Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, Saudi Crown Prince, First Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister,  Arab Interior Ministers Council Honorary President HRH Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and others.

“Concern for security motivates us to work harder to deal with regional challenges.  The Arab world has witnessed various security challenges, conflicts and the escalation of tensions and security disturbances. The general situation indicates that we are dealing with serious security conditions in several areas. This hinders development programmes and wastes national energies,” Lt Gen  Shaikh Rashid said.

“Arab identity is the source of our strength and that is what makes us gather in this hall and push for further cooperation,” Lt Gen  Shaikh Rashid added.
