Khalifa bin Salman Press Awards on May 7
Manama : Information Affairs Minister, Ali bin Mohammed Al-Romaihi, has announced the launch of the second edition of the “Khalifa bin Salman Press Award” which will be presented during the Bahrain Press Day on May 7.
The minister extended deepest thanks and appreciation to HRH the Prime Minister for patronising the award, which, he said, embodies the Premier’s support to the rights of journalists to express their opinions freely, independently, responsibly and creatively within the atmosphere of democratic and cultural openness prevailing in the Kingdom during the prosperous era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The move is part of Information Affairs Ministry’s keenness on supporting and encouraging columnists and journalists, as well as on strengthening the role of the national press in Bahrain, Al-Romaihi said.
It is also out of the ministry’s recognition of the positive impact of free and transparent press articles in enlightening the public opinion and consolidating the hard-won national achievements and gains to meet the citizens’ needs and fulfil their aspirations within the pioneering Reform Project spearheaded by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, he added.
According to the Information Affairs Ministry, all press institutions and journalists in Bahrain-based local, weekly or quarterly newspapers or magazines that are issued in Arabic and English may participate in the award.
The award will be granted in four categories, namely the Best Column, the Best Investigative Report, the Best Press Interview and the Best Press Photo, covering the political, economic, sports and cultural fields.
Nomination for the award will be open from today until April 25, and the presented works will be examined by a jury comprising high-profile journalists, media persons and academics.
Those vying for the award should present up to five works within a single category, the Information Affairs Ministry said, adding that the participating articles should have been published in Bahraini newspapers or magazines in 2016 only, and should not have participated in other local competitions.
Any work which had won a press award during a local, GCC or Arab competition will not be allowed to vie for the award.
The Information Affairs Ministry said that it would not be responsible, professionally or legally, for any copyright violations in the presented works, noting that the award will be withdrawn from violating winners.
Participants should send their works (including necessarily the electronic link) to the award’s website (dm@iaa.gov.bh ).
They should provide information about the name of the publication, the publication date, the category and personal information of the applicant.
