Three get death for Qurrayah bombings

Manama : The High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced three persons to death and four to life in prison for their role in the terror bombings in Qurrayah that targeted police officers.
The court also sentenced eight persons to 15 years and two to 10 years and ordered the confiscation of all materials seized in their possession.  The 16th and 17th accused received 10 years in prison each.  Two of the eight accused were also ordered to pay a combined BD1541. The accused were arrested in connection with detonating explosives in Qurrayah in which several police officers were injured.
According to court files, the accused targeted police officers and spread panic among citizens and residents of the Kingdom. The court files said the third accused was spearheading the group, while the first and second accused were providing him with the necessary guidance and support. The third accused, after he was arrested, guided police officers to a place where explosives and locally-made weapons were stashed. Police officers also unearthed arms from the 14th accused, court files of the case revealed.
The 13th accused revealed the explosives storage location and the 15th accused disclosed details about a Kalashnikov and an ammunition-holding magazine.
The accused persons’ conviction was established based on their statements, witnesses’ testimonies and technical proofs.
According to the court documents, the accused had formed and joined a terror cell that made explosive devices and firearms and used them against policemen in acts of terror in the Northern Governorate.
They used the weapons to inflict heavy casualties among the public security forces and material damage in order to cause panic and spread chaos among citizens and residents, the court documents said.
