Fleecing couple arrested
Manama : A couple who had allegedly been cheating companies in Bahrain to the tune of BD55,000 was arrested in India, according to reports yesterday.
An Indian couple, who reportedly cheated several companies and escaped to India, was arrested by the Indian authorities on Monday.
Abdul Hakeem and his wife Naseema Bivi were arrested in the Indian state of Kerala. They were found to be purchasing goods on credit from several companies here and accumulating debts before fleeing to India.
The reports said that it was on a complaint made by Mohammed Jalal & Sons, who were also cheated by the couple, the Indian police registered a case that led to the arrest.
The couple had purchased cigarettes worth thousands of dinars from Mohammed Jalal & Sons. According to them, the couple sold the cigarettes and managed to escape to India with the cash. “When they were not seen for a couple of months we made enquires and found out they had left for India saying that one of their family members died,” the company man said.
