Action sought against illegal occupation of public spaces

Manama : Residents in different parts of the capital have demanded strong action against people who are illegally occupying public parking spaces.
“The residents in our area have more than two vehicles and they are reserving most of the spaces meant for parking. Previously, the Municipality had taken some action but the illegal occupation is continuing,” said a resident near Al Raja School who did not want to be identified.
“The parents who come to drop their kids to school face a lot of inconvenience due to illegal reservation of public spaces and if anyone parks their cars in that area, the next morning we would find our vehicles damaged, tyres punctured or our cars scratched with sharp tools. Our area has just become unsafe to most of the residents because this happens overnight and we still don’t know who is behind this, “ the resident said.

“I spent almost BD150 recently because someone scratched my car. Our area is increasingly becoming unsafe. We really thank DT for raising the issue of illegal reservation of public parking spaces,” the resident said, referring to the busting of an illegal parking racket by police after a report appeared in DT on Monday.
“A few expats on road 425, Area 304 next to Oriental Press are creating a huge nuisance to residents by occupying public spaces. I personally don’t have an issue with them but I have kids and they are being affected,” said another resident, adding these expats have placed their thermocol coolers to store and clean their fish with the result that the whole area is now stinking and is filled with flies.
“Not only the car of an individual blocks the parking space for the entire building but also all his vehicles moves in that area. I have complained to the municipality a lot of times but there was no response. When we try to explain the people who are illegally blocking the public space they threaten us or damage our vehicles,” the resident said.
