Refreshing mothers’ memories

Manama : People all over the world observed Mother’s Day yesterday. A cross section of the local society from the city of Manama recorded their feelings about what they thought about their dear moms.

Amber Rowe, Deputy Editor of a leading magazine, said she has never met another person in her life like her mom Sharon Rowe. “Her energy and spirit is unparalleled. She has taught me and inspired me to be not more than what I am. She has always supported me and often sacrificed things herself to be the best mother. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried and we’ve completed each other’s sentences. There is no other love like it!” she said. “I just want to say ‘thank you, mumma’, and I can’t wait to have the same relationship with my daughter as I have with my best friend, my mom,” she said.

Manpreet Kaur, who recently graduated from the University of Bahrain, said her mother Kamaljeet Kaur, despite facing a lot of obstacles in life she still remains to be strong and standing by our side no matter what comes in the way.  “She is so patient that I have surprised myself as to how she manages to be so. She is right behind me as my backbone whenever I feel like giving up anything. She has taught me many things, but, most importantly, to be a fighter by myself and to never give up on things that meant most to me,” said Manpreet, adding that is so blessed to have her mom in her life.

Rohit John, student of Miami Ad School, about his mother Suja John: “As it’s Mother’s Day, everyone is expecting the usual cheesy message of adoration. But, honestly, I don’t believe I could be half the person I am if it wasn’t for my mom. As a young child, I never understood why she left her job for three boys, who have never given much in return apart from hugs and laughs. But, that’s what I love most about her. It was unconditional love that made her leave her career behind just to make sure we were ready for the world. My favourite memory of her is driving me, every week, for music classes despite her fatigue from a long day’s work. She would wait out for me, which would be followed by eating donuts and lip-syncing to the radio, to cap off the day’s rides. She didn’t have to do it, but she wanted to. And that’s why I love her. Happy Mother’s day, Mom!”

Elton Shera, a professional musician, about his mom Elizabeth Shera: My mother has raised me with utmost love, care and protection. I am so glad she raised me giving great values especially when I’m in difficult times. I adore you mom and at times I may not say it but know that I forever love and care about you. I still remember when I was little,  you held my hand and took me to the school bus stop and waited for me till I got back and made my favourite dishes when I was stressed from all the assignments. You gave me hope and asked me never to give up on my dreams. If I am the person I am today it’s just because of you. “I love you, mom!”, said Elton.

Sarah Rashid, student, about her mother Sayeeda Rashid: My mother is my world. My best friend, nanny, councillor, advisor and confidant! Out of the innumerable things she has done for me, the one I’d like to thank her the most is for letting me be ‘ME’ and believing in me even when I didn’t have the courage to always stand up for me in my decisions. There’s no way I could ever try to put into words how much I love her. I’ll do whatever it takes to always keep that brighter-than-the-Sun smile on her face. Someday, I hope to get close to half as perfect as the person she is. And I would also try to become the person she’s always wanted me to. “Thank you, Maa!”
