Jaffer, Dharshini win table tennis gold
Manama : Jaffer Ebrahim an Al Duraz School student yesterday captured the gold medal at the Fourth Mini Olympics for the table tennis singles title for intermediate boys division after a 3-1 (-7, 3, 1, 4) win over Sayed Hasan Ebrahim in the final at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association hall in Riffa.
Hassan Ebrahim captured the competition’s bronze medal following a 3-0 (10, 14, 10) victory against Feroz M. in the third-place match.
In the intermediate girls stage final, Dharshini topped the four-player competition with six points from three wins to secure the gold medal. Tinu Ann of the Indian School took the silver, followed by school mate Pranita Nair who won bronze.
Amruta Amit of the Indian School secured the primary school girls gold medal against Nayana Susan, also of the Indian School and Al Safa’s Fatima Abdulla, who settled for the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The primary boys singles title went to Angadpreet S. of the New Millennium School after he beat fellow student Saketh 3-0 (3, 8, 9), while Aayan Pandey of Bahrain Indian School took the bronze after defeating fellow student Manoj Subraman 3-0 (7, 9, 8).
Elsewhere, Al Hekma were crowned champions of the primary girls football tournament at the Kanoo International School sport hall as they topped the competition thanks to a 5-0 win over the Indian School. New Millennium School were second and Hawar School third.
In the intermediate stage, Kanoo International School picked up their third win in as many matches, following a resounding 7-0 win over the Indian School in Group ‘A’ match.
In the boys division, Hawar stretched their winning ways in both primary and intermediate sections, with the intermediate team easing to a 4-0 win over Al Noor in Group ‘B’ at the Bahrain Football Association grounds in Riffa. Hawar also lead in the primary stage in Group ‘A’ with wins over the Indian and Kanoo schools.
The 3-on-3 Basketball championships continued yesterday with the first of the secondary boys and girls matches as Sacred Heart School ‘B’ team registered a tough 3-2 win over Kanoo International School ‘A’ in Group ‘B’ match at the Bahrain Sports for Disabilities Federation hall.
In the secondary boys, Al Hekma scored a 5-3 victory over Sacred Heart ’B’, while Kanoo edged Al Hekma 6-5 in two closely-contested Group ‘E’ game at Umm Al Hassam Basketball Hall.
Action in the Mini Olympics continues today with the boys and girls football and 3-on-3 basketball from 10am onwards.
