‘Thief followed victim from ATM branch’

Manama : A man who was recently caught by the police for stealing money from a car followed his victim from an ATM branch to his workplace before committing the crime, authorities revealed yesterday.

The suspect spotted the victim, an accountant at a Manama based firm, withdrawing the money to pay the month’s salaries to his company’s workers. He then followed the victim to his workplace before breaking into his car and stealing the cash.  

The accountant, who filed a complaint at Naim Police Station, revealed to the investigators that the bag was placed under the car seat. 

“I locked the car and left for a few minutes. When I returned, I found one of the windows broken and the bag missing,” he stated.

Ministry of Interior officials, with the help of General Directorate of Traffic tracked down the suspect with the help of CCTV footages. 

“The evidence collected from the  spot and examination of CCTV footage revealed that a green car moving around the parked vehicle. After some time, a man emerged from it, smashed open one of the windows and fled with the envelope containing the cash,” Head of search and investigation at Manama Police Station, Captain Khalifa Al Thani stated. 

The suspect who surrendered at the police station revealed that he spent BD5000 of the stolen money and hid the rest at his home.
