Baby dumping: Woman brought back to Kingdom

ManamaA foreign woman, who disposed of her new born baby in a public rest room in Bahrain International Airport (BIA) last week was brought back to Bahrain and prosecuted yesterday.

Child and Family Prosecution Deputy Attorney Hamad Al Gallaf confirmed that the woman, an Asian national, was brought back from Dubai after the Bahraini police notified the authorities there.

The infant’s dead body was found inside a waste bin in one of the toilets in BIA’s departures hall recently.

“The Public Prosecution here issued an international arrest warrant against the woman. She was arrested by the Emirati police and brought back to the Kingdom. She was interrogated by the prosecution immediately. The woman confessed to delivering the baby inside a rest room in BIA’s departures hall,” Al Gallaf said yesterday.

The woman also confessed to have taken tablets to speed the birth up few days before the incident.

The woman was arrested by the Emirati police as she was about to fly to Dubai to board another flight back to her country. She was stopped in Dubai International Airport, where she suffered health complications and was later hospitalised.

“The concerned authorities in both countries coordinated through the Interpol in order to bring the woman before justice,” he added. The woman will remain in custody while a coroner is assigned to examine her.
