US student jailed for drug peddling
Manama: The High Criminal Court has sentenced an American student in a private university here to 10 years in prison for peddling drugs and consuming hashish. The youth has been ordered to be deported after completion of his prison term.
The youth was arrested in a sting operation after a police tip-off revealed that he was selling illicit drugs . The trap was laid by an officer in plain clothes who contacted the student, requesting hashish cigarettes from him. The duo then met in the defendant’s apartment in Busaiteen, where anti-drug squads pounced on the accused upon completion of the receiving process. It was reported that the defendant was smoking a hashish cigarette at the time of his arrest.
According to court files, police officers seized a digital scale and other types of drugs from the respondent’s apartment. He admitted to the charges levelled against him before the prosecutors, court files read.
