Record rain pounds Bahrain
Manama : Normal life was thrown out of gear as the Kingdom witnessed another spell of heavy rainfall yesterday, with the Meteorological Directorate predicting more downpours until Friday.
The ordeal of daily commuters continued as they battled floodwaters rising up to one metre, leaving several localities submerged in knee-deep water
The flooding also led to power failures in many areas across the Kingdom. Authorities are working round the clock to drain away the excessive water logged in many parts of the island.
Since February 11, the Kingdom received an average rainfall of around 88 millimetres (64 million cubic metres, the second highest rate recorded in history.
“This is the second highest rainfall rate recorded in the Kingdom’s history, the first being 106.8mm in 1988,” Director of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT)’s Meteorological Directorate at Civil Aviation Affairs Adel Daham said.
He also explained that the rainy clouds have started to move to the southern parts of the Arabian Gulf region and that a noticeable temperature drop will be witnessed in the next three days, starting today.
