Painting a new perspective

ManamaPaintings are displayed using different mediums, and many artists have their own versions. But what makes Jess Ramos Tejada unique in this regard is his approach.

For him, painting is the realisation of one’s self and the artist attempts to translate all his life experiences onto his canvas.

Jess is an art teacher at Al Wisam School and the recipient of the 2016 Philippine’s biennial awards for ‘Outstanding Overseas Filipino Workers’.

He has created an extensive collection of paintings which showcase his life’s journey using different shades of pop, surrealism, and abstractions.

Jess who is looking forward to his upcoming exhibition themed ‘Colored Adrenaline’, his first solo attempt in Kingdom, shares his thoughts with DT News

“My aim is to elaborate the complications of life, the flamboyant story of the little things, through a combination of colours, texture, lines and symbolism,” he says.

His experience with nature, colleagues, and stories he read led to him to be a painter, according to Jess.

“My inspirations have always been books, different kinds of people I come across in my life, and of course my home. Art is an honest effort which defines the artist’s mood. I do not have any specific strokes, but I am passionate about lines. I love combining them onto canvas to create an intense artwork”, he says.

During his spare time, Jess gives talks and free workshops to charity institutions to raise awareness and promote art as a therapy. Jess hopes to expand more internationally and use his talent to advocate and empower children.

About his upcoming exhibition Jess said, “Most of our energies and inspirations are just like adrenaline.”

“All of my artworks vary from different mediums, from dry to wet, 3 dimensional to 2 dimensional, most of them are series that tackles life and environmental issues.

“I used some trashes and many day-to-day objects to give highlights to my theme.”
