2017 WAHO conference begins

ManamaThe Deputy King, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday attended the opening ceremony of the 2017 World Arabian Horse Organisation (WAHO) conference, which is being held at the Ritz Carlton Manama under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

During the opening ceremony, Prince Salman highlighted that the WAHO conference recognises Bahrain’s longstanding equestrian tradition and success in nurturing pure-bred Arabian horses. The Deputy King also emphasised His Majesty’s unwavering commitment to the legacy of this historic breed, which has become an integral part of the Kingdom’s heritage.

Speaking about the WAHO’s objectives, His Royal Highness welcomed the ongoing collaboration between Bahrain and the WAHO, which he said has been central to the preservation of the authentic Arabian horse.

Prince Salman concluded by recognising the contributions of affiliates to WAHO, all of whom have actively promoted initiatives around the conservation of the Bahraini Arabian horse, which continues to garner international recognition.

His Royal Highness praised the organisational committee, led by HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, for providing an important opportunity to showcase the Arabian horse and associated conservation activity. He went on to extend his best wishes to the President of the organisation as well as all the delegates participating in this year’s conference.

The opening ceremony included an address by prominent breeder, Jenny Lees, on Bahrain’s Arabian horses and WAHO’s President, Peter Bond. In their remarks, both extended their gratitude to Bahrain for hosting the WAHO conference for the second time since 1998, and highlighted Bahrain’s pivotal role in supporting exhibitions and conferences that help to achieve the organisation’s goals.
