Making the right career choice

ManamaA former resident of Bahrain, along with his fellow researcher claims to have formulated an advanced multiple intelligence test intended to help students choose the right career.

After extensive studies Indian researchers Paul Maliakkal and N M Hussain,  formulated a multiple intelligence test, which they believe can change lives of many who are wasting away years after making the wrong career choices.

“Choosing a career is one of the most difficult decision on one’s life, yet students are left with little or no assistance when it comes to it, Giving the right guidance can save one from many miserable years or even decades,” said Maliakkal.

After being inspired by Howard Gardner, a world renowned American researcher who formulated the theory of multiple intelligence, the men devised the test which they claim has achieved a 99 percent accuracy.

So far, thousands of students in India were given the test while a few dozen in Bahrain were also tested. The duo are in Bahrain at the invitation of a educational organisation here.

“Other than the standard aptitude tests there is nothing on career guidance here. The concept of career counselling is not as evolved in the Middle East and South Asia as it is in the west. Our education system does not provide any practical advice when it comes to making career decisions” he said, adding, “What we formulated has testing on nine intelligences, currently there are no other tests in the world that tests on nine. Ours is also more complex in many other ways”

The duo are now in talks with University of Bahrain(UOB) about implementing the tests to the university.

After reviewing their work, Howard Gardner himself, had given them his consent. The duo will soon apply for ‘Project zero’, a Harvard University project dedicated to study of multiple intelligence.
