12 men jailed in Karanah bomb blast case

ManamaTwelve Bahraini men implicated in detonating a bomb in the village of Karanah have been sentenced to prison by the High Criminal Court. The defendants received sentences ranging between 35 years and three years.

Two police officers were injured in the blast after the defendants along with other unknown men triggered the bomb.  Prosecutors say that the culprits had deliberately carried out a riot to lure the cops into the area in order to target them with the explosive.

“The defendants intended to murder police officers with their act,” the Public Prosecution underlined in the complaint against them. The Bahrainis also attacked police officers with iron rods and firebombs before the bomb went off.

The accused have been charged with riot, manufacturing  bomb,  possession and carrying out terrorist activities.

Two of the defendants received a total of 35 years in prison each, while another two were slapped with life sentences (equal to 25 years in prison) each.
