Dair blast; Jail terms confirmed

ManamaThe life sentences issued against three Bahraini defendants convicted in connection with a blast in Dair on December 29, 2014 have been confirmed by the  Supreme Appeals Court. 

The trio are accused of attempting to murder policemen with firebombs. The defendants along with unknown rioters planted the bomb and staged a demonstration in the area to lure police officers. 

When the officers arrived at the scene the rioters attacked them with petrol bombs and fled the scene.

However  First Lieutenant Yousif Al Kooheji who was heading the group of the security forces, spotted the bomb and withdrew the forces from the area. 

Bomb experts dismantled the bomb which was eventually detonated in the scene by the experts. The explosion caused BD190 in damages to a nearby cold store, according to court files. 

The third defendant told prosecutors that they made the bomb via using black powder. 

He said that over 40 masked rioters participated in the same event. 

The defendants had been charged with attempted premeditated murder as well as possessing explosives.
