GAA introduces Maritime Training

Manama  : Gulf Aviation Academy (GAA) announced it has added Maritime Training to its roster, which is also the first of its kind in the Kingdom.

The programme, according to GAA, was established in response to the need in the industry for certificated training through the Ports and Maritime Affairs (PMA).

Launched in October 2016, the programme was introduced through (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) STCW 95, which targets seafarers working in the industry. GAA has graduated 25 individuals over two batches with the next group starting soon.

Commenting on the programme, Yousif Busbhait, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ports and Maritime Affairs, said: “Our main goal from this partnership is to reinforce our support for the public and private sectors as well as shipping companies.”

GAA also said it has partnered with Tamkeen for the full funding of the first course included in the programme, STCW 95.

“With over fifteen courses that GAA is planning to announce, the Maritime Programme will be geared to serve the industry locally and internationally thereby establishing GAA as a logistics and transportation training hub, the only one of its kind in the region,” Captain Dhaffer Al Abbasi said.
