Where painting is everyone’s “Cup of Art”

ManamaPainting is an art that  expresses the feelings and emotions of an artist. But all may not be able to wield their brushes to create a masterpiece. Bahraini Artists Lamees Al Jamea and Amani Altawash, however, see things differently.

“Through proper motivation and training it is possible,” they say.

It is with this idea that they have set up an ‘art gym’ for youngsters who think painting is not their cup of tea.

While creating  the “Cup of Art”, they were guided by the belief that they can unearth hidden talents with true inspiration, which was proved right, eventually.

DT News visited the club where people from all walks of life come to master the art.

The origin of “Cup of Art”

A casual gathering of friends sharing a common passion in art lead to the formation of the club a month ago, the artists say.

“Initially we had casual group gathering over weekends at our home, which was purely informal where we shared our knowledge with others.”

“The idea was to know each other and reach more people.”

“Slowly, our gatherings became popular and many veteran artists joined us.”

“As we taught young talents to paint, we too had the opportunity to grab the technique of master strokes from the veterans,” the artists who have a strong blood-line of artists in their family say.

Club-Membership and Activities

Learning is a continuous process and must be open to all. This was their motto while setting up the club.

“We welcome each and every one to be a part of our club either by signing up or through a casual walk-in.”

The club which is open from 9am-10pm at Amwaj Lagoon offers an apt ambience with coffee and snacks along with workshops for visitors and members.

“We give them support to learn, draw and to master their own technique.”

“At a gathering recently we tried bringing in music and art together,” they add.

Inspirations and support

“For us painting is always an inspiration,” the artists say while adding, “as artists, we never thought of anything else.”

They are also  associated with CH9, a business accelerator.

“CH9 has given us ample space to do workshops and gatherings.”

Art in Bahrain and Future Plans

Challenges inspired the duo in their growth.

“Facing challenges was an inspiration for us.”

“We believe the club would be recognised internationally one day. We foresee people knowing us by the ‘Cup of Art’.”

According to Lamees Al Jamea and Amani Altawash, artists in Bahrain are highly talented when compared to others across the globe.

“But, they lack inspiration. We have to motivate them and bring them up to an international level.”
