Fists fly at Dragon City

ManamaShoppers at the Dragon City in Diyar Al Muharraq faced tense moments Friday evening, when a violent fist fight broke out between shop keepers. 

A video of the incident, doing rounds on the social media shows men exchanging heavy blows, while a women trying in vain to prevent the fracas. 

The video, which begins with the clash already in progress, shows a corridor with panicking customers as more men jump into the fight. 

A security guard is seen trying to interfere but soon slips away shouting on his walkie-talkie for help, which didn’t arrive.   

The 26 second footage, filmed by an onlooker and later shared on the social media platforms, stops abruptly while showing two men throwing punches at each other, lying on the floor. 

The recording of the violent showdown also shows the woman who ran around desperately to break the fight ending up hitting her head hard against the floor. She was seen holding her head in pain as she lay on the floor helplessly. 

The mall management has not yet officially commented on the incident. However sources at the mall, who requested anonymity, told DT News that the fight did happen there. They also confirmed that it was between vendors and was business rivalry that led to the fracas.  

The sources further said that “suppliers and pricing policies” was at the centre of the dispute. 

Meanwhile, other traders at the mall said that none of the men in the video were seriously hurt. However, they said the lady was injured. 

“At the beginning they were just quarrelling and it went on for almost half an hour. It turned into fist fight suddenly.”

“First there were only two people, but more joined later - up to five. We don’t know what they were arguing about, but it was business related, ” the source told DT News. 

According to the sources, all those involved were Chinese nationals. 

Another vendor expressed his embarrassment at the incident. “What happened does not reflect the atmosphere here, we get along fine here. Business has been picking up recently and I hope that this incident doesn’t give us a bad reputation,” he said.
