GCC leaders express solidarity with Kingdom

ManamaThe 37th GCC Summit comes amidst rapid international changes and critical conditions that require joint coordination among GCC countries, according to   Kuwaiti Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah.

“The region is currently faced with grave challenges, with dwindling oil prices being a major concern,” he stated. 

Shaikh Sabah stressed on the need for a shift in national ideologies as well as fresh cooperation in many fields, in order to cope with these challenges. 

He also highlighted the need for increased strategies to bolster GCC cooperation to reinforce solidarity among the Gulf nations. 

Meanwhile, he also maintained that terrorism posed a mounting threat to regional security and stability, calling for concerted efforts to eliminate it. 

The Emir recounted that Kuwait had hosted peace talks on Yemen to restore peace in the war-torn nation.

“The GCC also underscores firm support of a political solution to the conlfict in Syria,” he said

Speaking on developments in Iraq, Shaikh Sabah expressed satisfaction over the progress made in the fight against the so-called Islamic State (IS), as he wished the country a prosperous and bright future. 

On the Palestinian conflict, the leader regretted that efforts to establish peace remained at an impasse, noting that the international community was preoccupied with other issues.

On ties with Iran, he said there needs to be constructive dialogue between the GCC and the Islamic Republic. 

Shaikh Sabah also urged Tehran to cease meddling in the internal affairs of other nations.
